Community Building & Engagement

Working with the Greater New Britain community

Neighborhood Housing Greater New Britain’s Community Building & Engagement (CB&E) service supports the development of strong resident leaders to sustain neighborhood groups with the aim of building resilient, vibrant local communities.

What we do:

Improve neighborhoods

We work with neighborhood groups such as the Neighborhood Change Builders of Sexton Street to develop and implement strategies for improving their neighborhoods, build cultures of health, and strengthen the community. We have supported this group in revitalizing and beautifying their neighborhood with initiatives such as community clean-ups, summer plantings, and small home repairs.

Support resident leaders

We provide resident leadership development opportunities, such as NeighborWorks’ Annual Community Leadership Institute, where resident leaders gain new knowledge and skills through workshops, network with their peers from across the nation, and participate in action planning.

Build communities

We sponsor or support community-building activities with neighborhood groups, such as Community Clean-Up Days and Build a Better Block celebrations. We work on programs to address community needs such as our Winter Snuggle Bundle of Care clothing drives. We partner with other community groups such as churches, non-profits, schools, and local businesses.
