Ribbon Cutting at Hart Street

NHS New Britain Staff and tenants, with Community and City officials.

On June 12th, we gathered with partners and neighbors to celebrate the ribbon cutting of our Residences on Hart project. The event held special significance as it aligned with NeighborWorks Week—a national celebration of community development and the power of creating homes and building strong communities. It was a meaningful moment to honor both the impact of safe, affordable housing and the strength that comes from working together.

Residences on Hart has been over three years in the making, and we couldn’t be prouder. This 16-unit development includes one, two, and three-bedroom apartments designed with care and comfort in mind. Each home features central air, in-unit laundry, and the quality finishes our residents deserve.

This milestone would not have been possible without the incredible support of our team, funders, local leaders, and especially the Connecticut Department of Housing and the City of New Britain’s Department of Planning and Community Development. Their belief in our mission helped turn a vision into reality—and for that, we are truly grateful.

During the event, we heard from a number of speakers including Dianne, one of our residents, who is excited to have a new place to call home, New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart, who shared these words about the project: “This is adding value to this neighborhood. This is adding so much to our city and adding much needed housing.”

and the Commissioner of Housing, Seila Mosquera-Bruno, who said…

“People always say to me ‘sometimes affordable is not affordable for our, working people with minimum wages.’ So what this is, is one of the developments that we funded almost 100% to make sure that we really tackled that issue of affordability.”

At its heart, this project is about more than buildings—it’s about creating places where people can feel safe, supported, and at home. Thank you to everyone who made it possible.
